Pantone Color of the Year

Who doesn't love color?  We certainly do and we absolutely agree with those folks over at Pantone and congratulate them for a job well done with the very difficult task of choosing the Spring 2012 fashion palette.  We think it's the perfect balance of vibrant bolds and muted pastels, a little reminiscent of the 1950's perhaps?  But still absolutely current.  Here's what the experts had to say:

For spring 2012 designers are inspired by diverse influences, showcasing a range of styles and lifestyles, from free and playful and light and breezy, to contemporary classics. Colors likewise reflect these differing moods, encapsulating vivid brights, soft muted tones and fun-loving pastels.

"Consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. "They have learned how color can help them alter a mood and provide the vitality and enthusiasm that enables them to experiment with new looks and color combinations."

So if you are looking to bring a splash of any of these gorgeous colors into your home you can do so very easily.  Throw pillows, area rugs, artwork, vases, window treatments, throw blankets, table runners are just a few ways to bring in color without having to spend a fortune to update your home with the latest color trends.  But boy, a few of these small changes can have the large impact that you just might be looking for and update your home instantly. And take special note... the Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, provides the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.  How inspiring is that?

So how do these color experts at Pantone come up with their decision?

Annually Pantone will declare a particular color "Color of the Year". The color is chosen to purportedly connect with the zeitgeist*; for example the press release declaring Honeysuckle the color of 2011 said "In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues."

* Zeitgeist - is "the spirit of the times" or "the spirit of the age." Zeitgeist is the general cultural, intellectual, ethical, spiritual, or political climate within a nation or even specific groups, along with the general ambiance, morals, sociocultural direction, and mood associated with an era
